The Faith of Stanley Tam

Yesterday at NCC we had the amazing opportunity to hear from Stanley Tam. Mr. Tam is a 93 year old businessman who has spent himself in God’s service. He made God the senior partner in his business, signing over 51% of the stock in his company to God… and then later signing over the rest. As a result he has given over $100 million to the Kingdom.

Mr. Tam is a man with incredible faith. He told one story about a business trip he took. He expected to be paid during the trip, but the company was unable to cut him a check. He was 180 miles from home with two gallons of gas and thirteen cents when God told him to start home. Not knowing how he was going to make it, he obeyed God. Along the way he picked up a hitchhiker who was able to buy them enough gas to get home.

“If I hadn’t started on my two gallons of gas and 13 cents, I wouldn’t have gotten home.” He said that the greatest lesson of his Christian life is that God has hitchhikers along the way to meet our needs.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that we never fail in human terms. I believe that God is as concerned with our journey as He is with our destination. Sometimes God has plans for us that require detours, redirections, and out-and-out failures, but there is comfort in knowing that He is always there.

Oh yay! I was wondering if Mr. Tam was still living…and I surely didn’t think he was still speaking at venues. After reading his books (found the first one at a library used book sale), I ventured into reading about his role model, George Mueller. All very life changing.

    Thanks for posting!

Thanks for your website I know Tam is still alive and still witnessing. I had heard him years ago at Asbury College. Now as director of a crisis pregnancy center, I picked up his book, Every Christian a Soul Winner, to ignite my passion and to share it with volunteer counselors. We do not have to go out to find people to witness to, they come to us. Blessings on your mission trip. Where is NCC?

I just heard Mr. Tam speak in Columbus. It was a tremendous testimony! At 94 his selfless nature is without peer. He had endless energy as he spoke about his commitment. Unfortunately we will never hear it on the nightly news.

No comment about Mr Tam would be complete without the recognition & acknowledgement of the ever present & ever abiding grace & presence of the One Who made it all a possibility.
More than anything else, the most interesting lesson of Mr Tam’s story is: ” Yielding to the will of God is the only thing that guarantees fulfillment in life & a secured crown in heaven.
May the grace provided by the Cross locate & transform every lost & weary soul! Amen.
    May God richly bless you.

One of my flag customers brought me his book, God Owns My Business, which I just finished reading. It is still so relevant to those of us trying to make a living in our own business, especially in these dreadful economic times. I, too, wondered if he was still living. I wish I could have heard him speak.

    Hello,

I would like to know how to contact Stanley Tam. I am interested in donating a piece of property to God’s kingdom use and retaining a portion of what the property is worth up-front. If the plastic business he started is still operational, I am aware of a machine that converts waste heat into electricity that could generate free electricity or money from sale of the electricity to a charitable organization, which I am interested in doing. I am looking for a Christian entrepreneurial organization that would be interested in a win-win situation where I could get some cash up front, someone would receive real estate worth many times more than the cash, the collateral of the real estate could be used to off-set the purchase of a waste heat to electricity machine in the shop that produces waste heat on a regular basis, and money could be generated in perpetuity via the electricity produced to go towards a Christian charitable cause, the owner of the business establishment, and a percentage of the income from the electricity sales to me.

Thank you for your prompt response,

Please refer to subject heading in your e-mail response, “per your request”.

I just finished his book GOD owns my biz, and I’m fired up to witness like never before!  I am an entrepreneur as well, and was totally uplifted by every chapter of his book.  I wanted to find out if he’s still on earth or gone to glory, and praise God he’s still here!
