Inaugural Photos

Rachel and I went out to see Barack Obama’s Inauguration today. We were far enough back that we couldn’t actually see what was going on at the Capitol, but here are some shots of what we did see, both in our trek to and from the National Mall and our experience there.

Regardless of your political persuasion, there is no doubt that the inauguration of America’s first African-American President is an historic moment, and it was very cool to be there for it.

How did you experience the Presidential Inauguration?

I took this shot on the way home from the inauguration. It was inspired by a similar (although much better) one from David Russell. There are some things that are too easily forgotten.

This is Bernard (or so we’ve named him), the St. Bernard that lives across the street from us. He’s quite cute.

Thank you for the great photos! It is a historical day for our country. I really appreciate that fact that you shot a picture of the homelessness that is present in your back yard. No matter where we live, it is real and so often look over. May inspiration rise up in others to reach out from your photo!

OMG! how exciting! I watched the coverage on TV & recorded it. I watched the crowds diligently in expectation of a glimps of my special family. Miss you guys so much & are so proud of your accomplishments & future endeavors.
One of my favorite quotes came to mind at the picture of the homeless sleeping under the bridge.
“The law, in its majestic equality, forbids the rich as well as the poor to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal bread.” (from The Red Lily, 1894) by Anatole France (1844-1924) – pseudonym for Jacques Anatole François Thibault .

Great pictures!! I bet that was quite the experience. Yes, while they spend $170 million on one day for the inauguration…there ARE still people homeless and living under bridges. What a contrast. We should all remember that! Thanks for the reminder!

Washington D.C. is such a beautiful place-one of my favorite places! I can only imagine what it is like living there. Thanks for sharing! :)
